Badinerie
DEFINITION
Badinerie is a piece of music that is light-hearted in character. The best known badinerie is the lively, last movement of Bach's suite in b minor for flute, strings and continuo.<br><br>Badinerie is an 18th century English word derived from the 1650s, French word “badin” or “badinage” which means "playfulness, jesting, to jest, joke, silly”. Also may be related to the Scottish word “Badnystie” such as in the Scottish prose:<br><br>“Thow barrant wit ouirset with fantasyis Schaw now thy schame schaw now thy badnystie Schaw now thy endite repruse of rethoryis” - Palace of Honour<br>
