Sitar
DEFINITION
A stringed instrument of the Middle East related to the lute. The sitar has a long neck, 20 frets, and originally having three strings, although the modern sitar has many more. The frets are movable to produce a wide variety of modes and tunings. A long-necked string instrument from India, similar to a lute. it is played with a plectrum worn on the right forefinger.
