Stamping idiophone
DEFINITION
A formal sub-classification of idiophones that are comprised of instruments that produce sound by stamping or striking the ground or another hard surface with an object, causing the object to vibrate. These instruments (the vibrating object) have no discernible pitch and are typically used for rhythmic interest.
