DEFINITION
An electronic instrument developed in the1960's that produces a wide variety of sounds by combining sound generators and sound modifiers in a single unit with a unified control system. The first digital synthesizer that was manufactured for commercial use was made in 1976.an instrument that uses electronic means to re-create an almost infinite variety of sounds. modern synthesizers usually have pre-set instrumental and vocal notes, which are operated by means of a keyboard. they have come to prominence mostly in the field of popular music, but also have a place in certain modern orchestral works<br><br>A musical instrument that artificially (using oscillators) generates signals to simulate the sounds of real instruments or to create other sounds not possible with real instruments.
