Zamponia
DEFINITION
An South American end-blown tubular aerophone consisting of several closed pipes of cane fastened together in two sections. It was also made out of ceramic, stone, and wood. The zamponia is divided into 2 parts; the upper part (consisting of 7 pipes) is commonly called the Ira and the lower part (consisting of 6 pipes) is called the arca. The instrument produces a sound by blowing across the ends of the pipes.
